Geisha's day off [old habit]
From a ca. late-1880s-90s series of studio album views depicting the private moments of real Geisha Girls during the warm days of summer. These are the original "Penny Postcard" versions from 1905-15, reproduced in this format to take advantage of the world-wide hand-tinting postcard boom.

As Geisha Girls do Pinto
These photographs are not so common, but when found is usually seen as either a Meiji-era albumen print or later postcard image. However, here is a richly-done "Salt Print" version from 110 to 120 years ago - a rare series of ca.1880s-90s full-plate images printed by sunlight on simple "salted paper", and hand-tinted with transparent water colors

Japan: Daily Life of a Modern Geisha
—
These are the memoirs of the geisha of the XXI century, those who also prayed to the gods to become “those who dominated all the arts” because that means their name. They have a difficult learning ahead to become a geisha. Still retain their strict traditions but their way of relating to the global world has changed considerably. We have been with them in the okiya where they live, during the music lessons at “their university”, we have entered the forbidden world of its customers in the teahouses. They have confessed us their dreams and their intimate secrets
