Philip Glass : Qatsi Trilogy

Koyaanisqatsi : Life out of balance 1982
Powaqqatsi : Life in transformation 1987
Naqoyqatsi : Life as war 2002

Ko-Yaa-Nis-Katsi (from the Hopi language) lets you experience the acceleration and density of modern society in a new way. It invites you to consider the benevolence of technology and the notion of progress in the world we live in. A world out of balance.

Translation of the Hopi Prophecies sung in the film

If we dig precious things from the land,
we will invite disaster.

Near the Day of Purification, there will be cobwebs
spun back and forth in the sky.

A container of ashes might one day be thrown
from the sky, which could burn the land
and boil the ocean.

Po-waq-qa-tsi (from the Hopi language, powaq sorcerer + qatsi life) n., an entity, a way of life, that consumes the life forces of other beings in order to further its own life.

Naqoyqatsi is a Hopi word (more correctly written Naqö̀yqatsi) meaning "life as war".
