as que troquei por outras (como poderei
esquecê-las desprendendo-se longamente de mim?);
as que perdi, verbos e
substantivos de que
por um momento foi feito o mundo.
E também aquelas que ficaram,
por cansaço, por inércia, por acaso,
e com quem agora, como velhos amantes sem
desejo, desfio memórias,
as minhas últimas palavras.

Stanley Kubrick, Fotógrafo

Stanley Kubrick é mais conhecido pela sua carreira de realizador de filmes como 2001: Odisseia no Espaço, Laranja Mecânica, Barry Lyndon, Shining... mas poucos conhecem a sua faceta como fotógrafo profissional da defunta revista Look.

A Look, fundada em 1937, o último número foi publicado a 19 de Outubro de 1971, era então muito conhecida por dar nas suas reportagens mais ênfase às fotos do que aos textos. Stanley Kubrick ficar-lhe-á também associado por ter sido o mais jovem fotógrafo a ser contratado pela Look: Kubrick tinha 17 anos quando captou a expressão melancólica de um vendedor de jornais lendo a notícia da morte de Franklin D. Roosevelt. Enviou a foto à revista, que a comprou por 25 dólares, e a publicou na edição de 26 de Junho de 1945. A fotografia acabou por dar a Kubrick um emprego a tempo inteiro na revista como repórter fotográfico e por lá trabalhou até 1951.

:: Annie Ross Sing A Song With Mulligan ::

Singer Annie Ross’ first solo album after joining Lambert, Hendricks & Ross finds her at the peak of her powers. Ross is joined by two versions of the Gerry Mulligan Quartet with either Chet Baker or Art Farmer on trumpet, Bill Crow or Henry Grimes on bass, and drummer Dave Bailey. For this CD reissue, there are also five previously unissued selections and one that was originally on a sampler. Annie Ross is at her best (and most appealing) on “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Your Face,” “Give Me the Simple Life,” “How About You,” and “The Lady’s in Love With You,” but all 16 selections are quite rewarding and her interplay with baritonist Mulligan is consistently memorable. This CD is a must-have for your essential jazz collections.
